At Creighton Universityís annual convocation Feb. 7, two faculty were named to fill chair vacancies at the University. Beverly Kracher, Ph.D., professor of business ethics and society and executive director and president of the Greater Omaha Alliance for Business Ethics was named The Robert B. Daugherty Endowed Chair in Business Ethics and Society. Terry W. Wilwerding, D.D.S., professor of prosthodontics was named The Dr. Oscar S. Belzer Endowed Chair in Dentistry.
A passionate educator and service provider and a member of the Creighton faculty since 1988, Kracher was previously honored by the University with the College of Business Cahill Excellence Award, the Collegeís Administration Excellence in Graduate Teaching Award and the Faculty Excellence in Service Award.
An international expert and speaker on business ethics, in addition to heading the Business Ethics Alliance, Dr. Kracher serves as a board member of the Better Business Bureau and is a past member of several economic development committees. She was also a research fellow with the Center for International Business Ethics in Beijing, China. On campus she has been an active member of the sustainability effort, previously heading the recycling committee and serving on various University committees dealing with social responsibility.
Kracher completed her undergraduate and graduate studies at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln where she received a doctorate in philosophy in 1991. She taught philosophy at University of Nebraska, Omaha and Lincoln as well as at the College of St. Mary and Creighton.
The Robert B. Daugherty Endowed Chair in Business Ethics & Society was established in 1981 to further scholarship in the field of business ethics and serve as a resource for business leaders in the community.
Wilwerding has been a Creighton faculty member since 1980 and served as chairman of the Department of Fixed Prosthodontics from 1992 to 2000. He is the director of the dental history course and the preclinical Fixed Prosthodontics curriculum.
Wilwerding supervises dental students who staff the One World evening clinic, is co-director of the Institute for Latin American Concern (ILAC) dental program and oversees the bachelorís degree program in dental hygiene. Wilwerding graduated from the Creighton University School of Dentistry in 1977 and received masterís degrees in education and counseling from Creighton. He also maintains a private dental practice in Omaha.
The Dr. Oscar S. Belzer Endowed Chair in Dentistry was established by Jerome Belzer, M.D., in honor of his father, a 1928 graduate of the School of Dentistry. The chair recognizes and honors outstanding faculty members.
