Help Researchers Better Understand How to Engage Patient’s in Health Research

If you have participated in or are interested in participating in clinical research trials that could lead to better patient care, The Werner Institute at Creighton University School of Law wants to speak with you. The Werner Institute will host two, small-group discussions on the subject on Jan. 23 and Jan. 24, 5:30-7:30 p.m.

The purpose of the discussions, funded by the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute, is to seek input from participants on how to include patients in health research – from beginning to end – including understanding and communicating results.

The Creighton discussions are part of a larger research project, headed by Oregon Health & Science University, in cooperation with University Network for Collaborative Governance, The Werner Institute and others. Similar discussions are occurring at other U.S. locations, and information from these discussions will be compiled to guide future work in this area.

“We want to learn more, from the patient’s point of view, about how patients can best be involved in and served by clinical health research. Participants in the discussion groups will be encouraged to share their experiences, ideas and questions,” said Anat Cabili, senior advisor and project manager for The Werner Institute.

The Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute is an independent, nonprofit organization created by Congress in 2010 to support research guided by input from patients, caregivers and the broader health care community to produce high-integrity, evidence-based information that improves the overall quality of patient health care and outcomes.

Participation in the discussions is very limited and registration is required. To be eligible, individuals must be at least 19 years old. The discussions will be held on the Creighton campus, and parking will be arranged. Participants will each receive a $50 gift card.
