Creighton Medical Faculty Member Receives Dedicated Teacher Award

Shailendra Saxena, M.B.B.S, Ph.D., associate professor, received Creighton University School of Medicine’s Dedicated Teacher Award at the spring faculty meeting. The award recognizes a faculty member who has demonstrated excellence in teaching students in the biomedical, behavioral or clinic sciences over an extended period of time.

Nominators noted Saxena’s teaching efforts in supervising 15 Family Medicine residents, eight School of Pharmacy students and 10 School of Medicine students, while writing and submitting articles to peer-reviewed journals. Saxena also involved residents in an academic poster presentation to the Nebraska Academy of Family Physicians.

Saxena also educates his peers through continuing medical education conferences, both as a topical presenter and course director. He has received numerous awards and recognitions for his efforts including the Golden Apple Award in 1990 and six Certificate of Merit awards from the American Medical Students Association and the Creighton Family Medicine Outstanding Faculty Teacher of the Year Award in 2005 and 2011.
