Creighton University Choral Director Barron Breland Wins Award

Creighton University Choral Director Barron Breland, D.M., was presented with the “Outstanding Young Choral Director” award from the Nebraska Choral Directors Association (NCDA) Nov. 16, in Lincoln. The award presentation took place during the NCDA annual meeting and Nebraska Music Educators Association annual conference.

The award is given to a choral director with less than 10 years teaching experience with high performance and literature standards and with consistent membership and participation in the NCDA and the American Choral Directors Association events and conferences.

At Creighton, Breland conducts the Creighton University Chamber Choir which was invited to perform at the North Central American Choral Directors Association conference in Madison, Wis., last February and also performs with the Omaha Symphony.

Breland received his doctorate in choral conducting from the Jacobs School of Music; he also has degrees in music theory and choral conducting from the University of Georgia and Indiana University. He has been a member of the Creighton Department Fine and Performing Arts faculty for four years.
