Senior executive producer of “Meet the Press,” Betsy Fischer Martin, will be the keynote speaker at Creighton’s Alpha Sigma Nu Lecture at 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, in the Harper Center Hixson Lied Auditorium.
Her presentation, “Meeting the Press: Headlines and history from the longest running television program” is part of the annual Rev. William F. Kelley, S.J. Lecture Series. Started in 1958, this annual tradition has become an important event for the Alpha Sigma Nu alumni club and student chapter to bring to the Creighton campus. The lecture is free and open to the public.
For over 60 years, Meet the Press, a weekly television news program for NBC, has featured headline-making interviews with world-leaders and U.S. newsmakers. President John F. Kennedy once called Meet the Press the “fifty-first state.” It is the longest-running television series in American broadcasting history. Fischer Martin is also the managing editor for NBC News political programming.
Alpha Sigma Nu is the most prestigious Jesuit honor society and was organized in 1915 at Marquette University. Alpha Sigma Nu is unique among honor societies in that it seeks to identify the most promising students in Jesuit institutions of higher education who demonstrate a commitment to the ideals of Jesuit higher education: scholarship, loyalty, and service.
