Creighton Students Lead Statewide Student Nursing Association

Creighton University School of Nursing made a nearly clean sweep of state office elections at the 64th annual Nebraska State Student Nurses Association (NSSNA) Convention. Three of the four officer positions will be held by Creighton students for the upcoming school year.

Nickolas Gabriel, a sophomore nursing student from the Omaha campus, was elected the organization's president. Two students from Creightons Hastings campus, Jose Bago and Dagne Rivas, were elected secretary and treasurer.

Gabriel, the 2012-2013 NSSNA secretary, was also named Board Member of the Year and Kelsey Patience, a senior nursing student from the Omaha campus, was awarded Nebraska State Student Nurse of the Year.

Fourteen nursing students from Creightons Omaha and Hastings campuses attended the convention in Gering, Neb. on Feb. 16. Along with the elections, students also participated in networking events, an NCLEX review and breakout sessions on a variety of topics including ECG interpretation, intubation and neonatal sepsis.

Since 1948, the NSSNA has been dedicated to developing a collaborative and cooperative structure between the state's nursing schools through leadership, education, scholarship, legislation and networking.
