Author of "The First Muslim" to Speak at Creighton

Lesley Hazleton, author of the book The First Muslim, which takes a new look at the life of Muhammad, will speak at Creighton University at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, in the ballroom of the Mike and Josie Harper Center on the Creighton campus.

A reception will be held prior to the presentation beginning at 6 p.m. Her lecture titled, ďA Tourist in the Koran: Lesley Hazleton Presents the First Muslim,Ē is $10 for the general public and $5 for students and senior citizens.

The First Muslim, published in January 2013, follows the life of Muhammad, the world-known prophet from Islam. Although a well known name, there is little known about Muhammad. Through her book, Hazelton brings Muhammadís historical story to life by finding the real human inside the mythology. Her account follows Muhammad from the beginning through his rise to power and legacy and keeps readers captivated till the very end.

Hazleton is a British born American who has spent years reporting in Jerusalem and New York City. She has been published numerous times in highly regarded publications including The New York Times, TIME magazine and The New Republic. She also authored many books focusing on religion and politics in the Middle East.

The Muslim Student Association of Creighton University sponsors the presentation. They have also partnered with the Center for Faith Studies at Countryside Community Church where Hazelton will have a second presentation at 7p.m., September 28.
