Creighton University Wins Inaugural ‘Battle of the Beaks’ Fundraising Challenge

After a three-week competition Feb. 19 through March 12, Creighton University has won the “Battle of the Beaks.” The challenge was an effort to increase fundraising participation by alumni and undergraduate students from the three BIG EAST schools that have birds as mascots. Also competing were Marquette University and St. John’s University.

Creighton received approximately 2.76 percent participation among alumni and students. Marquette came in second with 1.8 percent participation, followed by St. John’s with .59 percent. Creighton had more than 1,800 participants donate $540,000 in gifts and pledges.

Creighton was announced as the winner of the Battle of the Beaks before the first game of BIG EAST Men’s Basketball Tournament March 12. More information and a video on the campaign are available at
