The Rev. James Martin to discuss latest book at Creighton University event

The Rev. James Martin, S.J., a nationally recognized Jesuit and author, will hold a book discussion on Friday, May 13 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at St. John’s Church. Fr. Martin will discuss his latest book, “Seven Last Words,” which is based on reflections from his 2015 Good Friday homily at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York.

Guests will be able to purchase books and meet with Fr. Martin following the discussion. The event is free and open to the public.

Drawn from Jesus’ last words on the cross, “Seven Last Words” invites readers to deepen their relationship with Jesus. Fr. Martin explains how phrases such as “I am thirsty,” and “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” show Jesus’ ability to understand humanity.

Author of “The Jesuit Guide to (Almost) Everything” and “My Life with the Saints,” Fr. Martin is the editor at large of America, a weekly Catholic magazine. A frequent media commentator, he has appeared on Fox’s “The O’Reilly Factor,” PBS’ “NewsHour” and Comedy Central’s “The Colbert Report.”

Fr. Martin is the commencement speaker for Creighton’s afternoon ceremony on May 14.
