Creighton School of Dentistry’s Give Kids a Smile event slated for Feb. 6

Creighton University School of Dentistry is hosting its 14th annual Give Kids a Smile event on Saturday, Feb. 6.A clean bill of dental health in children can lead to increased academic focus and achievement, better overall health and, of course, a bright, toothy grin all kids can be proud to flash.

To give all children that chance and to celebrate National Children’s Dental Health Month in February, the Creighton University School of Dentistry is hosting its 14th annual Give Kids a Smile event on Saturday, Feb. 6 in the Boyne Building, 2802 Webster St. From 8 a.m. to noon, children ages 3 to 14 — especially children without dental insurance — are eligible to receive free dental education and preventative care from Creighton dental faculty and students, including exams, X-rays, teeth cleaning, fluoride treatments and dental sealant applications.

“It’s a great way for Creighton to fill a major need in our community,” said James H. Howard, DDS, senior associate dean for clinical and external affairs. “The Give Kids a Smile program is one of the most inspiring things we do as faculty and students. For our students, especially, it’s a great opportunity to get experience and to demonstrate what’s really at the core of their education: giving back. Service to our community is an important part of the mission of the school and the education of future healthcare professionals.”

Since 2003, Creighton’s Give Kids a Smile program has helped more than 1,000 children who may not otherwise receive dental care get a checkup and receive other needed procedures.

Appointments can now be scheduled by calling 402-280-2863.
