Leadership announced for new CHI Creighton University Medical Center

CHI Health Creighton University Medical Center today announced the senior leadership team, management structure, and the timeline and process for staffing for the new CHI Creighton University Medical Center.

Today’s announcement has Kevin Nokels, FACHE, currently president of CHI Health Creighton University Medical Center, remaining in that role, but with added responsibilities going forward. Marie Knedler, president, CHI Health Bergan Mercy and Mercy-Council Bluffs, will be responsible for day-to-day operations of Creighton University Medical Center, among other duties.  

Todd DeFreece,vice president of Operations CHI Health Creighton University Medical Center Bergan Mercy, will lead development and operations of the ambulatory center at 24th and Cuming, and Pat Townley, operations director, CHI Health Creighton University Medical Center and a longtime CUMC employee, will serve as project manager on future operations.   

Three vice president level positions will need to be filled for the Academic Medical Center. Two of these positions – Vice President Patient Care Services and Chief Medical Officer – will be posted on May 11 with announcements expected in mid-June.  

The third position is a future role that will be filled when Creighton University Medical Center relocates to Bergan Mercy.   

Additional information provided by CHI Health, and that will be announced over the next two days, includes the following:

  • Director and manager positions will be posted by May 31 with announcements coming in September
  • There will positions for all 144 supervisors, and their new roles will be announced in October
  • There will be positions for all staff-level employees with departments and shifts to be announced in January
  • All supervisors and staff will have a job in the new Academic Medical Center, and staffing plans will be announced in January
