Creighton University names 10 new board members

The Creighton University Board of Trustees elected 10 new board members during its spring meeting on Friday, May 13. Among the new members are three Jesuits, who bring a wealth of leadership experience at some of the highest levels of the Jesuit order, and eight lay people, including five alumni, from diverse positions in business, government and the nonprofit world.

The Rev. Casey Beaumier, S.J., Ph.D., is the director of the Institute for Advanced Jesuit studies at Boston College, and is known for his expertise on Jesuit education and spirituality.

The Rev. Joseph Daoust, S.J., a former general counselor to the Jesuit superior general in Rome, is currently the superior of the Jesuit community on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota.

The Rev. Gerald Thomas Krettek, S.J., Ph.D., is a former provincial superior for the Wisconsin Province of the Society of Jesus, currently holds several positions in the Department of Philosophy at Fordham University.

The seven new lay trustees are:
Thomas Barry, BSBA’88, CPA, is senior vice president, controller and chief accounting officer for Sirius XM Holdings Inc. in New York.

Jerry K. Crouse is vice chairman of Tenaska Energy, Inc., and CEO of Tenaska, Inc., one of the leading independent power producers in the U.S.

Chris Elias, BS’79, MD’83, HON’09, is president of global development for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Nizar (Nick) Ghoussaini, BS’75, MS’76, is a senior operational partner for Triton, a private equity firm with offices in London, Frankfurt and Stockholm.

Susan Nemer Haddix, is a trustee for GFH and SAH Foundation Trust, and longtime volunteer and board member for nonprofit and educational institutions.

Jayme Martin, BSBA’92, is vice president and general manager of global categories for Nike, Inc.

Gary Witt is a consulting director and former president and managing shareholder of Lutz, an Omaha-based accounting, technology and talent service firm.

Sheila Nix, BSBA’83, deputy assistant to the president and chief of staff to Jill Biden, wife of U.S. Vice President Joe Biden, also has been named to the Board but has deferred that appointment until she completes her role with the White House.

In addition to these appointments, the Board approved James Smith as the new advisor to the External Relations Committee. Smith is a former president of ConAgra Frozen Foods and serves on the board of trustees for Saint Louis University. 

Mr. Eric Immel, S.J., was named as an associate Trustee, a new position on the board. Immel is a Jesuit scholastic who will serve at Arrupe College this fall as the assistant dean.
