Fr. Schlegel to be honored with bust on display at Creighton

Fr. SchlegelCreighton University will honor the Rev. John P. Schlegel, SJ with the unveiling of a bust of the former University president during a reception at the Schlegel Center for Service and Justice (SCSJ) from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m., Sept. 17. The unveiling of the bust will take place at 4 p.m. The reception is part of Creighton’s Homecoming weekend.

Creighton studio arts professor and well-known sculptor, Littleton Alston, is donating the bust to the SCSJ. It will be located in the Harper Center on Creighton’s campus at the SCSJ office. Fr. Schlegel sat for the bust in the final months before his death in 2015. He served as Creighton’s 23rd president from 2000 to 2011.
