Noted scholar and priest to present inaugural Heaney Lecture in Pastoral Liturgy

The Rev. Richard Fragomeni, STB, PhD, will deliver the inaugural Heaney Lecture in Pastoral Liturgy, Oct. 7.Creighton University inaugurates a new lecture series next month with the first Heaney Lecture in Pastoral Liturgy.

The Rev. Richard Fragomeni, STB, PhD, will deliver a talk titled “Celebrating the Eucharist and Preaching in the Time of Pope Francis,” Friday, Oct. 7, at 4 p.m., at St. John’s Catholic Church on the Creighton campus. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall of lower St. John’s.

Fr. Fragomeni is a presbyter of the Diocese of Albany, New York, and a professor of liturgy and preaching at the Catholic Theological Union. His teaching and research interests run to Roman Catholic theology, interpretation theory and poetry, and he is currently at work on a study of the intersection of symbolic activity and language as it creates insights into the Christian proclamation of grace.

Fr. Fragomeni is also the author of Come to the Feast, In Shining Splendor: Fifty Eastertime Meditations, and The Eucharist: 50 Questions from the Pews. He is co-author, with Br. Michael McGrath, OCFS, of both Blessed Art Thou Mother, Lady, Mystic, Queen, and At the Name of Jesus: The Way, The Truth and The Light. In addition to his teaching, writing and research, Fr. Fragomeni is also a preacher of parish missions and has presented nationally and internationally on liturgical, sacramental and catechetical topics.

An adjunct faculty member in the Department of Religious Studies at DePaul University, Fr. Fragomeni also serves as the rector of The Shrine of Our Lady of Pompeii, an Italian-American spiritual center in Chicago’s historic Little Italy.

The Heaney Lecture in Pastoral Liturgy is free and open to the public and is sponsored by St. John’s Parish, the Creighton College of Arts and Sciences and the Barbara Reardon Heaney Endowed Chair in Pastoral Liturgy.
