Square dance returns to Creighton for Welcome Week

Students square dance during Welcome Week activities.Few things can bring folks together, both spiritually and physically, like a good, ol’-fashioned square dance.

With that in mind, members of Square Dance Omaha, a collective of square dancing groups from throughout the metro, will be on the Creighton University campus later this month to help welcome new students and get them acquainted with one another.

It’s the third time in as many years Square Dance Omaha has provided the experience, which culminates in a massive square-dancing event on the soccer pitch at Morrison Stadium, Monday, Aug. 21 from 7:30 to 9 p.m.

“It’s just such a fun thing,” said Deb Carlson, a board member of Square Dance Omaha who took part in the event the past two years. “The kids really have a blast and it’s something a little different for them to try out to get to know other people.”

Last year’s square dance during Welcome Week brought out more than 1,000 Creighton students and this year’s is expected to be similar in size.
