Founders Week celebrates Creighton University past, present and future, Feb. 5 through 11

Creighton University will celebrate the lives and vision of its founders and the work of the University’s nine schools and colleges this month with the annual Founders Week observances, Feb. 5 through 11.

The week commences with the celebration of the Founders Week Mass, Sunday, Feb. 5 at 10:30 a.m., at St. John’s Church on the Creighton campus. The College of Nursing also holds its annual Call to Nursing Luncheon for students, faculty and staff, following the Mass, from noon to 2 p.m.

Monday, Feb. 6, Student Leadership and Involvement Center Leadership Recognition Day is sponsored by the Creighton Students Union and will begin its program at 5:15 p.m., in the Mutual of Omaha Ballroom in the Skutt Student Center.

The Heider College of Business holds its Founders Week Luncheon from 12:30 to 2 p.m., on Tuesday, Feb. 7 in Room 3028 of the Harper Center.

The centerpiece of the week is the Creighton Founders Convocation, held Feb. 7 at 3 p.m. in the Hixson-Lied Auditorium of the Harper Center. The event will feature the annual Founders Convocation address by Creighton President the Rev. Daniel S. Hendrickson, SJ, the naming of the University’s newest endowed chairs and Distinguished Service Awards, the Distinguished Educator in Teaching as Scholarship Award, and the presentation of this year’s Deglman Center for Ignatian Spirituality Award. 

Wednesday, Feb. 8, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., the Lied Art Gallery features the paintings of Alicia Scherich in an exhibition titled “World Peace.” The Founders Feast for Students, sponsored by the Creighton Students Union will take place from 4:30 to 7 p.m., in the Mutual of Omaha Ballroom in the Skutt Student Center.

Creighton’s Committee on the Status of Women hosts the Mary Lucretia and Sarah Emily Creighton Awards Luncheon on Thursday, Feb. 9 from 11:30 a.m., in the Ahmanson Ballroom of the Harper Center. This year’s honorees are Deborah L. Wells, PhD, senior associate dean in the Heider College of Business; Mary E. Chase, EdD, vice provost for enrollment and university planning; and Rachel Marie Lee, a third-year student in the School of Law.

Also on Feb. 9, the College of Arts and Sciences celebrates holds its annual awards reception at from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., in the Mutual of Omaha Ballroom of the Skutt Student Center.

Friday, Feb. 10, the Graybackers Luncheon, hosted by the President’s Office, takes place in the Ahmanson Ballroom at the Harper Center.

The week concludes Saturday, Feb. 11, with the Creighton Bluejays women’s basketball game against Providence College at 1 p.m. Two complimentary tickets for faculty and staff are available for pickup at the Ryan Athletic Ticket Office, Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

At 2 p.m., Feb. 11, Alpha Sigma Nu will hold its induction ceremony in the Ahmanson Ballroom of the Harper Center, with a reception to follow and a 5 p.m. Mass at St. John’s Church with special participation by the inductees.
