Several Creighton University-connected thespians and theatrical artists and technicians are nominated for honors in the Omaha chapter of the Theatre Arts Guild’s annual awards gala.

The nominations reflect Creighton Theatre’s continued contributions to local productions, said Bill Van Deest, theatre professor and resident lighting and scenic designer in the Creighton Department of Fine and Performing Arts.

“The theatre department continues to have a significant impact on the Omaha community theatre scene and we wanted to share our accomplishments,” he said.

The Nebraska Shakespeare Festival production of The Taming of the Shrew, directed by Creighton theatre professor Amy Lane, BFA’90, PhD, has been nominated for Outstanding Comedy Production.

Van Deest has earned an Outstanding Scenic Design nomination for his efforts on Catherland at the Shelterbelt Theatre. Ben Adams, a sophomore in the College of Arts and Sciences, was also nominated for the production, as Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role-Musical.

Two alums, Emma Rasmussen, BFA’15, and Ted Lane, BA’93, JD’06, earned nominations for their work in the Bellevue Little Theatre’s production of Much Ado About Nothing. Rasmussen was tabbed for an Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role-Comedy, and Lane for Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role-Comedy.

Haley Haas, BFA’04, received an Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role nomination for her turn in Silent Sky at the Blue Barn Theatre.
