Creighton EMS Faculty Appointed to National EMS Initiatives

Two Creighton University faculty members in the department of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) have been appointed to serve on prestigious national EMS initiatives.

Michael Miller, EdD, will serve on the National EMS Scope of Practice Model, Subject Matter Expert Panel which will focus on development of evidence-based practice for EMS personnel, with an emphasis on patient outcomes. The group also promotes consistency among states regarding EMS practice. Miller was selected as one of 20 members on the panel from a national pool of 116 applicants. Miller is an assistant professor and director of Creighton's Emergency Medical Services Education Program. He has thirty years of experience in EMS, currently serving as assistant professor and EMS Education Program Director at Creighton University, where he joined the EMS Program in 2002. He has practiced as a paramedic and registered nurse, worked as a field paramedic, paramedic shift supervisor, quality improvement coordinator, EMS system program director, emergency department RN, and trauma program coordinator.

William Leggio, EdD, will serve on the EMS Agenda 2050: Envisioning the Future Technical Expert Panel focusing on writing a new agenda which is considerate of the needs of EMS for the next three decades. More information on this project can be found here.

Leggio is clinical faculty and paramedic program coordinator at Creighton's Emergency Medical Services Education Program. He has more than ten years of experience in EMS practicing as a nationally registered paramedic in both out-of-hospital and in-hospital environments. Before joining Creighton EMS Education full-time, he was an EMS instructor and director of simulated education at King Saud University in Saudi Arabia for four years working to establish the first four-year EMS College in Saudi.
