Religious ethicist and scholar to deliver 2017 Lawler Lecture

Aline Kalbian, PhDThe 19th annual Lawler Lecture in Catholic Theology will feature a distinguished scholar on Catholic moral theology and ethics.

Wednesday, March 29, Aline Kalbian, PhD, chair of the Department of Religion at Florida State University, will deliver a talk titled "Strangers in Our Midst: The Perils and Promise of Hospitality." Kalbian will touch on the nature of hospitality in the modern age and what obligations faithful people have to provide care and comfort to strangers and guests.

Editor of the Journal of Religious Ethics, Kalbian is author, most recently of Sex, Violence, Justice: Contraception and the Catholic Church. Among Kalbian’s research interests are the ethics of sex and gender, and bioethics and religion.

The lecture, free and open to the public, will be held Wednesday, March 29 at 5 p.m., in Room 3023 of the Harper Center, 602 N. 20th St., on the Creighton campus.

The Lawler Lecture is sponsored by the Dr. and Mrs. Ray Kiefer Endowed Lawler Lecture Fund, the Center for Catholic Thought and the Graff Chair in Catholic Theological Studies.
