Creighton announces $1 million in 2017 Creighton Global Initiative grants

Deepening and broadening Creighton University’s global and cultural understanding along with its local outreach, the University has announced the second annual round of grants for the Creighton Global Initiative.

The CGI committee selected a total of 15 projects to receive the $1 million in funding available this year. The selected projects continue to animate the Creighton community and, in the budding tradition of CGI, take more of Creighton to the world and bring more of the world to Creighton.

“In its second year, the Creighton Global Initiative has established itself as a cornerstone of the University’s mission to produce globally-engaged, locally-concerned citizens and agents for change,” said Creighton President the Rev. Daniel S. Hendrickson, SJ. “I continue to be impressed with the innovation, the passion, and compassion of our students and faculty who are putting forth proposals to enliven our academic mission and to extend the curious and caring reach of Creighton around the world. I look forward to seeing what research discoveries, personal insights, and friendships are formed, and how they will continue to build a CGI legacy.”

The Creighton Global Initiative was established in 2016 as a directive by Fr. Hendrickson in his inaugural address in October 2015, in which he noted the mission of Jesuit education is to inspire students to reach beyond their boundaries to fulfill their potential and the fundamental mission of Jesuit higher education is the service of faith and the promotion of justice. To live out these joint missions, Fr. Hendrickson said, students must know and engage the uncomfortable realities of the world.
