Visiting Japanese business leaders will make stop for roundtable at Creighton

A delegation of Japanese business and economics leaders will visit Nebraska and make a stop at Creighton University for breakfast with Creighton President the Rev. Daniel S. Hendrickson, SJ, lunch, and a roundtable discussion on international trade and investment.

May 2 through 11, 14 delegates from Keidanren, the Japanese Business Federation, along with leaders from high-profile Japanese brands like Kawasaki, Mitsubishi and Toyota, will tour Japanese-linked businesses in the state and attend the Berkshire Hathaway shareholders meeting.

They’ll also make time for the May 4 roundtable at Creighton to discuss the climate of international business. Creighton Heider College of Business professors Kristie Briggs, PhD, and Trent Wachner, PhD, will represent the University on the panel. A speech during the luncheon, “Japan’s Role in Global Affairs,” will be delivered by Ralph Inforzato, chief executive director of the Chicago office of the Japan External Trade Organization.

“Following close on our successful event with Dr. Koichi Hamada, one of the key architects of Japan’s present economic policy, Abenomics, this is another major opportunity for Creighton to dig into the global economy,” said Maorong Jiang, PhD, director of Creighton’s Asian World Center, referencing the visit to the University earlier this year by Hamada. “We look forward to hosting the Keidanren and showing them how Creighton is engaging the wider world through business, culture and friendship.”

Based on the strength of Creighton’s hosting Hamada, government officials in Tokyo reached out to the University to request hosting this prestigious delegation on campus.

The Keidanren delegates will also visit with Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts and tour the Kawasaki plant in Lincoln. They’ll also tour Union Pacific and Gavilon during their time in Omaha.

The May 4 roundtable at Creighton will take place at 10 a.m., followed by the luncheon at 12 p.m. All events will take place in the Ahmanson Ballroom in the Harper Center on Creighton’s campus.
