For second consecutive year, Creighton’s freshman class sets enrollment record

They’re here.

The Class of 2022 at Creighton University, that is — the University’s first class made up mostly of students born in the year 2000. And once again, the class sets a Creighton record for size, coming in at around 1,150 first-year students.

It’s the second consecutive year Creighton has set a freshman enrollment record and the fifth straight year the first-year class has topped the 1,000-student mark.

The class is also notable for its academic achievements with 37 percent of its members ranked in the Top 10 percent of their high school classes, 59 percent boasting a high-school grade-point average of 3.8 or higher and 25 percent netting a score of at least 30 on the ACT. These figures put the Creighton Class of 2022 among the Top 10 of incoming classes at the nation’s Catholic universities with more than 4,000 undergraduates.

Geographically, 41 percent of the class comes from 400 or more miles away from the Omaha campus. Thirteen states can boast sending 20 or more students to this class with Nebraska leading the way with 240 students, followed by Minnesota (142), Colorado (118), Iowa (83), Missouri (76), Illinois (70), California (69) and Hawaii (61). There are also large contingents from Arizona, Texas, Kansas and Wisconsin, along with 26 international students.

“We are so pleased to see big increases in our number of students from Nebraska and from throughout the region and nation,” said Mary Chase, EdD, vice provost for enrollment management. “Once again, this is a talented, diverse class that will enrich the academic and spiritual mission of Creighton University for years to come.”

Fifteen percent of the Class of 2022 at Creighton count themselves as first-generation college students. About 23 percent have had a close family member attend Creighton.

Demographically, 26 percent of the incoming class are students of color. Sixty-one percent are Roman Catholic, though many other faiths are also represented.

The Creighton Class of 2022 is also a connected and engaged group, with more than 81 percent citing participation in volunteer service.
