Founders Week celebrates 140 years of Creighton University, Feb. 4 through 11

As Creighton University celebrates its 140th anniversary in 2018, its Founders Week observances, Feb. 4 through 11, will pay special attention to the historical marker and the Universityís Jesuit, Catholic heritage.

The week commences with the celebration of the Founders Week Mass, Sunday, Feb. 4 at 10:30 a.m., at St. Johnís Church on the Creighton campus. The College of Nursing also holds its annual Call to Nursing Luncheon for students, faculty and staff, following the Mass, from noon to 2 p.m.

Monday, Feb. 5, Student Leadership and Involvement Center Leadership Recognition Day is sponsored by the Creighton Students Union and will begin its program at 5:15 p.m., in the Mutual of Omaha Ballroom in the Skutt Student Center.

The Heider College of Business holds its Founders Week Luncheon from noon to 2 p.m., on Tuesday, Feb. 6 in Room 3023 of the Harper Center.

Later Feb. 6, at 3 p.m. in the Hixson-Lied Auditorium of the Harper Center, the annual Founders Convocation will be marked by an address from Creighton President the Rev. Daniel Hendrickson, SJ. The naming of the Universityís newest endowed chairs and Distinguished Service Awards, the Distinguished Educator in Teaching as Scholarship Award, and the presentation of this yearís Deglman Center for Ignatian Spirituality Award will also take place.

Fr. Hendrickson will also give a Convocation Address specifically for Creighton students at 6:30 p.m. in the Mutual of Omaha Ballroom at the Skutt Student Center.

Wednesday, Feb. 7, at 3:30 p.m., will mark the Interfaith Prayer Service at St. Johnís Church, followed by the Founders Feast for Students, sponsored by the Creighton Students Union, will take place from 4:30 to 7 p.m., in the Mutual of Omaha Ballroom in the Skutt Student Center.

Creightonís Committee on the Status of Women hosts the Mary Lucretia and Sarah Emily Creighton Awards Luncheon on Thursday, Feb. 8 at 11:30 a.m., in the Ahmanson Ballroom of the Harper Center. This yearís honorees are Sharon Ishii-Jordan, PhD, professor emerita of education in the College of Arts and Sciences, Nancy Shirley, PhD, RN, associate professor in the College of Nursing, and Samantha Stoupa, a senior in the College of Arts and Sciences.

Also on Feb. 8, the College of Arts and Sciences celebrates its annual awards reception from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., in the Mutual of Omaha Ballroom of the Skutt Student Center.

Friday, Feb. 9, the Graybackers Luncheon, hosted by the Presidentís Office, takes place in the Ahmanson Ballroom at the Harper Center at 11:30 a.m. 

Saturday, Feb. 10, the Alpha Sigma Nu induction will take place at 10 a.m. in the Ahmanson Ballroom of the Harper Center. A Mass will also be celebrated with special participation by the inductees at 5 p.m.

Also Saturday, the Creighton Bluejays menís basketball squad will square off with Xavier at 1:30 p.m., at the CenturyLink Center.

Finally, on Sunday, Feb. 11, the Rev. Greg Carlson, SJ, will deliver a lecture at the Joslyn Art Museum on his Aesopís fables collection in an exhibition curated by Creighton honors students, Fr.
