‘Papal Ninja’ swings in to Creighton, April 3 and 4

Sean Bryan, known as the He’s as at home with Scripture as he is with the salmon ladder, as ready to scale questions of ecclesiology as he is the iconic warped wall.

He is: The Papal Ninja.

And April 3 and 4, Sean Bryan, who competed and was the top finisher in the ninth season of the popular physical skills competition American Ninja Warrior, will be at Creighton University to talk about his work in theology and discipleship in a talk for the University’s Agape Latte series titled “From ‘How Can I Know That it is So?’ to ‘How Can This Be?’”

Weaving scripture, tradition and his experiences as an evangelist, Bryan will speak with students about the call to holiness in a secular age and offer insights in a no-holds-barred question-and-answer session. He’ll also meet, April 4, with Campus Ministry leadership and a sports and spirituality class to talk about how his athletic endeavors have informed his spiritual practice.

Bryan, who holds a master’s degree in theology with a concentration in Salesian studies from the Dominican School of Philosophy and Theology, is the Lay Mission Project’s animating director. A dynamic speaker, he holds that wonder is a central spiritual principle in the maturation of every Christian. His talk at Creighton will examine how people of faith can widen their wonder and trust more profoundly in a loving God.

Bryan will speak Tuesday, April 3, at 8 p.m., at the fireplace in the Skutt Student Center on the Creighton campus. This talk is free and open to the public.

Wednesday, April 4, at 5:30 p.m., Bryan will speak in the ballroom at the Skutt Student Center on what it means to be a disciple in a secular age. This talk is also free and open to the public.

These events are sponsored by the Division of Mission and Ministry, the Creighton Students Union, the Center for Catholic Thought, the Student Leadership, Involvement Center and Inter Residence Hall Government and the Kripke Center for Religion and Society.
