Chadwick named vice provost for Creighton University Health Sciences Phoenix Regional Campus

J ChadwickCreighton University has named Jacqueline Chadwick, MD, the inaugural vice provost for the Creighton University Health Sciences Phoenix Regional Campus.

Effective Nov. 1, Chadwick will lead the Arizona campus, which is projected to have a total enrollment of approximately 800 full-time students including 400 students in a four-year satellite medical school, nursing students and students in pharmacy, physical therapy, occupational therapy, physician assistant and emergency medical services programs. The academic environment of the Arizona campus will reflect the Creighton mission and identity as a Jesuit, Catholic institution, with a student body well-versed in the humanistic aspects of their respective professions and a strong commitment to social justice.

“I am honored to be selected to this position,” Chadwick said. “Helping to develop curriculum and serving students is in my DNA. As Creighton University’s presence in Arizona grows, we will provide more highly trained health care professionals to serve the state’s rapidly growing and diverse population.”

In September, Creighton announced plans to build a 200,000-square-foot medical school on the grounds of Park Central Mall in midtown Phoenix to house all health sciences programs.

As the senior Creighton administrator in Arizona, Chadwick will report to Creighton Provost Tom Murray, PhD. In concert with the deans and Arizona associate deans, Chadwick will assist in developing and coordinating academic programs at the Phoenix campus. She will also chair the Creighton University Arizona Governing Council.

“Dr. Chadwick has extensive experience in the Arizona health care education system, and has had a distinguished career in medical education, administration and advocacy,” Murray said. “We are extremely fortunate to have someone of Dr. Chadwick’s experience and caliber to help lead this expansion of health science professional student enrollment in Phoenix. This is an important step for Creighton and for the future of health care in Arizona.”

Chadwick will continue in her role as executive director of the Creighton University Arizona Health Care Alliance, a partnership between Creighton, Dignity Health St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center, Maricopa Integrated Health System and the District Medical Group. Formally launched in 2017, the Alliance provides a centralized focus on graduate medical education with the goal of increasing the number of highly trained health care professionals practicing in the state.

A family physician, Chadwick’s distinguished career in medical education, administration and advocacy includes serving as vice dean for Educational Affairs and Accreditation at the Texas Christian University and University of North Texas Health Science Center School of Medicine — a joint venture between those two institutions — and vice dean for Academic Affairs at the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Phoenix. She also served as president of the Arizona Medical Association.
