Creighton University recognized as No. 1 by U.S. News and World Report for 16th year in a row

For the 16th consecutive year, Creighton University has earned the No. 1 ranking for Midwest Regional Universities in U.S. News & World Report magazine’s 2019 “America’s Best Colleges” edition.

“The continued recognition by U.S. News & World Report is a testament to our high-caliber students, alumni, faculty, staff, and programs," said Creighton University President the Rev. Daniel S. Hendrickson, SJ, PhD. “As we celebrate the 140th anniversary of our founding this year, we are poised to reach even greater heights, with a strategic vision that builds upon our Jesuit, Catholic tradition and propels us significantly forward in key areas of academic excellence, mission, and global engagement.”

The U.S. News & World Report rankings criteria include academic reputation and peer assessment, graduation and retention rates, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources and alumni giving. Fellow BIG EAST member school Butler University tied with Creighton for the No. 1 spot, highlighting the academic strength of the conference.

New among Creighton’s accolades this year is recognition for the school’s service-learning emphasis. As one of 47 universities in the category, Creighton is among those institutions where service relates to what happens in class, and in turn, coursework plays off volunteering. The honor is one voted on by college presidents, chief academic officers, deans of students and deans of admissions from more than 1,500 schools who nominated up to 15 institutions with stellar examples of service learning.

Creighton ranked No. 2 for Most Innovative Schools in the Midwest, recognized for its efforts to make the most innovative improvement in curriculum, faculty, students, campus life and technology or facilities. Creighton was also one of 90 schools recognized for undergraduate research opportunities.

The University was also recognized among regional universities for its strong commitment to undergraduate teaching, ranking No. 2 in that category which identifies schools where the faculty has an unusually strong commitment to undergraduate teaching.

Creighton was also one of 41 schools in the country recognized for internship programs encouraging students to apply classroom learning with real-world experience. The University is the only Catholic university in the category.

Creighton maintained its place as No. 1 for Best College for Veterans in the Midwest region.

Two programs in the Heider College of Business again earned recognition among the Top 100 Best Undergraduate Business Programs, with a No. 17 ranking in Finance and a No. 15 ranking in Accounting.

As a Best Value School, Creighton earned a No. 4 ranking in the Midwest, up two spots from last year.
