Take Back the Night scheduled for April 11

TBTN 2019Creighton University will host its fifth annual Take Back the Night and Denim Day events, Thursday, April 11, at 7 p.m. on the steps of St. Johnís Church. The Take Back the Night rally helps raise awareness about the effects of sexual assault and intimate partner violence on survivors.

This yearís Take Back the Night theme is ďStart by Believing Survivors,Ē an appeal to hear and affirm the stories of victims of sexual assault. At the rally, survivors of sexual assault and supporters of survivors are encouraged to share their stories at an open mic.

The rally will also feature a special guest, Jess Davidson interim executive director of the organization End Rape on Campus. Davidson serves as a spokesperson on issues of sexual violence, frequently appearing on cable news including CNN, Good Morning America, Tonight with Lester Holt, MSNBC, the New York Times and Washington Post.

Following the rally, a 9 p.m. action event, aimed at activism and legislation centered on combating interpersonal violence, is slated to take place in the Mutual of Omaha Ballroom in the Skutt Student Center. Dinner will be provided and no RSVP is necessary.

Creighton students, staff and faculty are also encouraged to wear denim on April 11 for Denim Day observations. The day started in Italy as a response to a high courtís ruling tossing out a defendantís conviction for rape because the survivorís jeans were determined to be too tight.
