New Waite Chairholders Announced at Town Hall

Waite Chairs 2019Creighton University’s next holder of the Anna and Donald Waite Endowed Chair in Jesuit Education for the fall semester is the Rev. Abel B. N’Djomon, SJ. Creighton’s president, the Rev. Daniel S. Hendrickson, SJ, announced the appointment at the Presidential Town Hall on campus Tuesday.

Fr. N’Djomon currently is dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Management at the Catholic University of Central Africa in Yaoundé, Cameroon, and supervisor of the Center of Excellence for the Governance of Extractive Industries in Francophone Africa at the same university. He also is the superior of the Jesuit community in Yaoundé.

At Creighton, Fr. N’Djomon will be researching economic liberalism in Sub-Saharan African countries and Catholic social teaching on economic liberalism in African countries. He will arrive at Creighton in early October and his office will be in the Heider College of Business.

In addition to numerous presentations and publications, Fr. N’Djomon has taught graduate courses on economic policies and development strategies, information economy, and strategies and challenges of extractive projects in Africa, as well as undergraduate courses in economic policy, history, strategies and analysis, as well as social teaching of the Church applied to the economy.

Fr. Hendrickson also announced that the Rev. Roy Pereira, SJ, will be the spring semester Waite chairholder in the College of Arts and Sciences, arriving at Creighton in January.

Fr. Pereira is the head of the Department of Chemistry and provost/vice principal at St. Xavier’s College in Mumbai in India.

His research explores the effects of cell phones, internet usage and social media on the brain. His fundamental research question deals with consciousness from both neuroscience and quantum perspectives, and he has spoken in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand.

The Waite Chair in Jesuit Education was established in 2011 by Donald Waite, BSC’54, and his wife, Anna, to augment the Jesuit presence on the Creighton campus. The Waite Chair sponsors visiting Jesuits who pursue writing, research and teaching on law, philosophy, business ethics, health care and more, opening doors for learning across international borders and cultural divides.
