Russ Pearlman named vice president of technology at Creighton University

Russ PearlmanRuss Pearlman, JD, has been named vice president of technology at Creighton University. Pearlman who has been served as interim vice president since October has been guiding the Division of Information Technology through the many IT adaptations the pandemic has necessitated. He originally joined Creighton from Thought Ensemble, the Denver-based consulting firm the University utilized for an information technology assessment.

Pearlman was named to the interim role because of his familiarity with Creighton and his identification of key opportunities to improve the University’s processes and infrastructure. Since then, he has led the division in taking the assessment findings and moving Creighton forward to achieve the University’s IT vision for students, faculty and staff.

“I am grateful for Pearlman’s outstanding work in his interim role, and I look forward to the continued successes and advancements in IT that the division and the University will accomplish under his leadership,” said Creighton University President the Rev. Daniel S. Hendrickson, SJ, PhD.

The division’s work during the pandemic has been particularly impressive, as Pearlman’s team supported more than 1,500 courses, 21,000 hours of delivered lectures and 100GB of new learning material during the spring semester, while assisting hundreds of faculty and staff in the move to remote work. In addition to coordinating with the Teaching and Learning Center (TLC) to support the transition to online learning and remote work, IT procured new Zoom, LogMeIn, and Frame software licenses; loaned out hardware such as laptops, monitors and webcams; and ramped up its service-desk support.

Pearlman has extensive experience in information technology, data security and organizational strategy, including legal expertise as an attorney who specializes in data privacy, cybersecurity and technology law. His background includes more than 25 years of progressively senior positions in business and technology roles. At the same time, he has accomplished involvement across various industries, including nonprofit organizations, Fortune 500 companies, startups and higher education.

Prior to his work at Creighton, Pearlman helped other organizations with digital transformation, technology modernization and organizational changes. He has developed curricula and taught IT classes to MBA students and holds a JD from Southern Methodist University and a master’s degree in computer science and two bachelor’s degrees from Washington University in St. Louis. He is a member of Phi Delta Phi Legal Honor Society and Psi Chi Psychology Honor Society.
