Creighton’s Doctor of Physical Therapy Program ranks 9th in nation, Doctor of Nursing Family Practitioner track 10th and Doctor of Occupational Therapy 15th, says U.S. News & World Report

Creighton University Creighton University saw three of its major health sciences doctoral programs ranked in the top 15 programs nationally, according to the U.S. News & World Report listings of America’s “Best Graduate Schools” for 2020.

The 9th ranking achieved by Creighton’s Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program is six places above last year’s 15th place and places the program in the top 4% among the 241 institutions nationally offering 255 DPT programs.

"The US News and World Report's ranking of the Creighton Doctor of Physical Therapy program is very exciting. Although many factors contribute to the ranking, it remains a privilege to be a top rated DPT program in a Jesuit institution and speaks well to the importance placed on academics, service and especially faculty who routinely contribute to nationally recognized scholarship,” said Kirk Peck, PhD, chair of the physical therapy department at Creighton University.

Creighton shares the 9th slot with acclaimed physical therapy programs at MGH Institute of Health Professions in Boston, Massachusetts; Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio; and the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.

In 1993, Creighton was the first in the nation to offer a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree program. Today, the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education requires that all programs nationwide offer only a doctoral degree.

The U.S. News report yielded more good news for Creighton, ranking its Doctor of Nursing Practice Family Nurse Practitioner track, as 10th in the nation. Creighton shared that distinction with respected programs at Loyola University, Chicago; Frontier Nursing University, Hyden, Kentucky; Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio; the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia; and the University of Washington in Seattle.

Additionally, Creighton’s Occupational Therapy program saw a steep climb, soaring from 25th the previous year to 15th. Given that 165 Occupational Therapy programs exist across the nation, the 15th ranking places Creighton’s OT program in the top 10% of institutions offering an OT degree. Like Creighton’s Physical Therapy program, Occupational Therapy was the first entry-level doctorate program in the nation. Since its launching in 1985, the University’s OT program has consistently set new standards in the profession and earned a reputation for its research and scholarly work.

The University’s pharmacy program achieved a top 50 position at number 46, while its Masters in Nursing program was ranked 112th.
