Vice President for Research
Robert P. Heaney, M.D., has been named to the newly created position of Vice President for Research. In this position, he will oversee research for all of the University, including the School of Medicine. His responsibilities will include maintaining a competitive research infrastructure, supporting faculty researchers, and developing revenue- generating opportunities. In 1971, Dr. Heaney became Creighton's first Vice President for Health Sciences; he held that position until 1984 when he was given an all- University appointment as a John A. Creighton University Professor. Dr. Heaney is world renowned expert and lecturer in bone biology with special emphasis on calcium and vitamin D nutrition. He has authored over 400 original scientific articles and reviews, and has received most of the major scientific awards in the nutrition field.
