Fall 2012 Service Project

Thank you to those who donated 131 rolls of toilet paper on the first Friday of the campaign.  Please help us gather more of this essential product for the shelter.

JAYPACKERS!

A big thanks to all the CU staff, students, faculty and administrators who helped out with the 2012 Staff Advisory Council/Salvation Army Back to School Backpack Campaign. We were able to exceed our goal of 5000 erasers this year. Great Job, Creighton!  UNO and the College of St. Mary again joined Creighton in this year's challenge by collecting rulers and highlighters/markers for this same effort.  Many, many thanks to all at Creighton, UNO and CSM for another successful effort, providing for this important community need!

SAC would also like to thank all of our volunteers who came to help out at the Salvation Army Backpack Packing day on August 13:  Liz Clark, Linda Dunn, Elise Riddle, Bridget Koley, Henry McCallum, Kristie Denne, Felicia Nuno, Taylor J. Ward, Jacob Jones, Rob Whitsitt, Jon, Emily, Tadd Martin, Caron Gray, Amanda Minckler, Therese McGrath, Pia A McCoy, Stephen Franklin, Erika Kirby, Meredith, Samantha, Celeste Hubbard, Jennifer Larsen, Quiron Larsen-Brown, Ashleye Burgett, Renee Schnitcker and the wonderful team of staff and students from the TRIO program!!!

We had so many volunteers this year we had to turn some away due to space issues.  Kay Weinstein from the Salvation Army sent the following message to all of our volunteers:

"I can't thank you enough for all your help!  I wanted to share this email I received today:  Dawn wrote, 'I just wanted to thank you for all the school supplies that you got for my kids. It was the first time we had ever not been able to afford school supplies and I wasn't sure what to expect ..I just wanted to let you know how much we appreciated what you guys are doing for kids in need. Thank you!'

"During our 4 distribution days and including our service extension areas we were able to help 12,457 children go back to school with confidence and well-equipped with backpacks and school supplies. Thank you for your generous effort to help The Salvation Army help those in need."
