The SAC Spring 2010 Service project was done in conjunction with the UNO Staff Advisory Council and The Salvation Army.
The Salvation Army concluded their 2010 Back-to-School Backpack Giveaway August 2010. Over 10,000 backpacks were distributed to area school children and their families at sites throughout the Omaha area.
Creighton played a big part in this effort. Together, we collected and donated nearly 5,500 rulers, over 500 packages of paper and several other school items such as colored pencils, glue and scissors to the Salvation Army for this project.
Additionally, the Creighton community stepped up and provided nearly 100 hours of volunteer service to assist in the assembly and distribution of these backpacks. Many thanks to the 29 Creighton volunteers who came forward and offered the gift of their time for this effort!
As members of the Creighton family, we demonstrated our interest in the educational experience of the younger students of our community and did something tangible and significant to help these children have a great start on their new school year. By any measure, this was a successful project here at Creighton. From the Salvation Army and the CU Staff Advisory Council – THANK YOU for making it so!
Since Creighton met it's goal, a few CU SAC members got together and made the following sign! It took about 570 rulers and about an hour for a few of our members to make it. If 570 rulers can do this...just think what 5,000 will do for the community!
