Issues
One of the largest roles Staff Advisory Council plays is receiving "issues" from staff and trying to resolve those issues by contacting the person or department associated with the issue.
The co-chair of SAC is the chair of the Issues Subcommittee. Issues are submitted by completing the form on this site or are communicated to a SAC member, who then tells the co-chair about the issues.
Steps to Resolving an Issue:
1. Identify the issue
2. Is the issue something we've dealt with before? If so, relay the solution/answer to the constituent.
3. If the issue is a new issue, identify the person or department who would best be able to resolve and/or address the issue.
4. Relay the issue to that party.
5. Is there a solution? Is it something a committee is already working on? Identify what needs to be done next.
6. Contact the constituent and let them know the outcome.
Resolving Issues
We are not able to resolve all issues, but if necessary, we will continue to ask questions and try to resolve them if possible.

Nominating
The Nominating Subcommittee is responsible for elections of new SAC staff members when other members' terms have been served, handling Rookie of the Year nominations and presenting of the award, in addition to nominations for the Presidential Committees.
SAC Members/Divisions
There are seven divisions at Creighton, with each division having a certain number of SAC representatives. Each outgoing SAC member is replaced with someone from that same division.
The divisions are:
- Academic Affairs
- Administration and Finance
- Information Technology
- General Counsel, President, University Ministry and University Relations
- Health Sciences
- Student Services
- Health Science Library, Minory Affairs, Center for Health Policy and Ethics, Clinical Pastoral Care, and Grants Administration

SAC Nominations
SACs member are elected to a 3-year term. Each June a nomination and election process is held in an online format to replace the outgoing SAC members (those they have served their 3-year term).
Staff are asked to nominate co-workers for the upcoming election (they must first get the nominee's approval). Once staff have been identified and have given approval, their names are added to the online ballot.
Once the online voting is open, staff are asked to vote and are given access to only those nominees in the same division. For example, if my division is Health Sciences, I can only vote for staff who are in the Health Sciences division.
Voting runs for the designated time period, results are tallied, and the winners are notified.
Presidential Committees
Staff members are elected to serve a 3-year term on various Presidential Committees to act as advisory committees to the President with regard to the areas they represent. Meetings are held in accordance to the statutes for each committee.
The various committees can be found here
When there are openings, staff are invited to nominate themselves. The SAC members then vote on who they would like for each committee and the names are given to the President's Office, who notifies those who are chosen to serve on the Presidential Committees.
Staff Relations
The Staff Relations subcommittee is responsible for the following:
- Free tickets for staff to CU athletic events, including men's and women's basketball, and soccer
- Town Hall meetings
- the SAC web site
- Other events involving letting the staff know about SAC and its purpose
In both the 2007-2008 and 2008-2009 academic years SAC handed out free tickets to soccer, men's basketball, volleyball and women's basketball games. These free tickets are always well received and appreciated!

Staff Service
Staff Advisory Council likes to help coordinate at least one major community project a year. In Spring 2008 and Spring 2009 SAC helped with the Project Homeless event, which assisted homeless people with housing issues, medical care, and other necessary services.
In the past, SAC has organized events with the Sienna Francis House in which staff members helped move items from one warehouse to another. Their help was greatly appreciated by the Sienna Francis House staff.
The members of SAC also like to help others in need around the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays and adopt a family to help.

Standing Rules
The role of the members of this committee are to review the SAC standing rules and recommend any changes, such as adding more SAC members under any particular division that has grown (for example, Health Sciences is a very large division and needs more SAC representation), keep the standing rules current, and to suggest deletions to the core document.
