JAMES MADISON GRADUATE FELLOWSHIP (for graduate work in History for future High School Teachers)

Am I Eligible?

To be eligible for a James Madison Graduate Fellowship you must: 

  • Be a U.S. citizen or U.S. national.
  • Be a teacher, or plan to become a teacher, of American history, American government, or social studies at the secondary school level (grades 7-12).
  • Posses a bachelor's degree or plan to receive a bachelor's degree no later then August 31 of the year in which you are applying.  (Currently a Senior)

 This is a Graduate school fellowship intended to result in the student earning a Master’s degree.

What Will I Receive?

Madison fellows can receive up to a maximum of $24,000 for their studies.  Fellowship payments cover the actual costs of tuition, required fees, books, and room and board but cannot exceed $12,000 per academic year.

How Do I Apply?

Application materials can be accessed through website listed below.  It is also important that you meet with Creighton’s faculty representative for the Madison Fellowship.  The faculty representative is responsible for reviewing your application and providing assistance throughout the process.

Deadlines:

Creighton deadline to faculty representative for review:   February 10th

Deadline for submission to The James Madison Memorial Fellowship Foundation: NO LATER THAN MARCH 1ST

Additional Information:

Professional Teaching Obligation

After earning a master's degree, each James Madison Fellow must teach American history, American government, or social studies in grades 7-12 for no less than one year for each full academic year of study under the fellowship.
