Facilities & Rules

The following rules are presented for students, faculty, staff, and guests of the Kiewit Fitness Center. 

KFC House Rules

  • Youth under age 14 must be directly supervised by an adult age 19 or older in the same activity space.
  • No food in activity areas (food is allowed in upstairs lobby and spine).
  • Plastic water bottles are allowed in the activity areas but no pop or glass containers.
  • Spit in appropriate receptacles and put gum in trash cans.
  • Activities involving thrown or kicked balls that might hit someone on the track or walls should be inside the gym curtains. i.e. soccer.
  • Return equipment or mats to storage areas.
  • Report all incidents, accidents, or concerns to KFC staff immediately.
  • Violation of rules may result in loss of KFC privileges.

Locker Rooms 

  • Men's and Women's Locker Rooms have restrooms, showers, and dry saunas.
  • Children over age 5 should use the same gender locker rooms.
  • Personal locks on day lockers overnight will be removed.
  • Report any abnormal activities or maintenance needs to the Building Supervisor on duty.
  • Always lock personal items in your locker and keep valuables out of sight.
  • Campus Recreation is not responsible for theft or loss of personal items.

Fitness Forum (Weight Room) Rules

  • No one under age 14 allowed in the room unless part of an approved Campus Recreation/Exercise Science fitness program without an instructor present.
  • Only plastic water bottles allowed.
  • Closed-toed shoes and shirts must be worn at all times. Spotters are recommended.
  • Do not drop free weights; re-rack weights when done; use safety bar clips at all times.
  • Please use a towel and wipe equipment benches after use.
  • Certain aerobic equipment has 30 minute time limits when others are writing.
  • Only personal audio headsets are allowed to be used. Secure all personal items.
  • Non-Exercise Science Personal trainers are not allowed.
  • Ask the Fitness Forum staff for assistance with proper and safe use of the equipment.
  • Report all equipment or facility problems immediately to the staff.

Dry Sauna Rules

  • Do not use the saunas as means of weight loss and limit use to a maximum of 20 minutes.
  • Do not pour water on the heating element and do not bring paper items in the sauna.
  • Persons under the age of 14 must have adult supervision.

Gym Court Uses & Rules

  • Court A is used for drop-in member use whenever all other courts are reserved. 
  • Court B 
  • Court C 
  • Court D
  • Court E May be reserved 24 hours in advance (note Sunday & Monday must be made on Friday by 5p.m).
  • All other uses such as group/event uses etc., must be approved by the facility director.
  • The Building Supervisor has final decisions authority for court set up and use.

Racquetball Court Rules

  • Racquetball/Squash/Wallyball reservations (cts 2&3) and academic classes have priority. Eye guards are recommended.
  • Racquetball courts may be used by small group activities by making a reservation.
  • Racquetball Courts are set up for Wallyball use and Courts 3&4 are lined for squash.
  • Check the daily court reservation sheet to confirm your courts and other available courts.  

Track Rules

  • The indoor 1/6th mile three lane track is primarily used by walkers and runners.
  • Runner/walkers use the track at their own risk when activities are on the gym courts.
  • The inside lane is for slower pace users, pass on the outside.
  • Run/walk in opposite directions daily.

Group Fitness/Dance Multi-Purpose Room Rules

  • This wood floored room has mirrors and acoustical panels and is primarily used for group fitness, dance, classes and Sports clubs (Reservations Required).
  • This room is kept locked. You must reserve this space.
  • No food or non-plastic water bottles allowed.
  • Use of fitness equipment must have prior approval.
  • Return all equipment to proper storage areas and lock room when done.

Other Rules

  • Any group/ individual in good standing can make requests for indoor KFC usage.
  • Request should be made by calling (402) 280-2848 or faxing (402-280-1123 the Campus Rec. office at least 24 hours in advance & up to a year in advance.
  • Recreational facilities have multi-uses and priority is given to Campus Recreation programs.
  • After KFC closing or before opening hours, exclusive use reservations may be requested.
  • Contact the Skutt Center (402) 280-1700 about additional on campus spaces available.
