The Department of Residence Life's mission statement details a commitment to personal growth and development. The following efforts are highlighted to further illustrate our department's commitment to intercultural learning and community development.
Community Partner Initiative - The Department of Residence Life began this initiative, the first in the nation, to help promote opportunities whereby students come face to face and heart to heart with various communities and cultures throughout the city of Omaha. Each residence hall or apartment at Creighton has partnered with a community agency or school to provide learning opportunities for Creighton students to attend weekly service trips or monthly events at their respective community partner.
Cortina Community - Started in Fall 2003, this service-learning, living-learning community enables students to taste community living that incorporates serious commitment to service, social justice and the practice of reflection.
Eileen B. Lieben Center for Women - The Department of Residence Life supports this center in the mission of providing a place for, faculty and staff to learn more about gender through programming on women's issues for all students. Programs include but are not limited to topics such as gender stereotyping, gender roles, sexuality and body image, and self-esteem.
NASPA's Undergraduate Fellow Program (NUFP) - The Department of Residence Life annually hosts a NUFP intern. The mission of NASPA's Undergraduate Fellows Program or NUFP is to increase the number of professionals from underrepresented groups in leadership roles in student affairs and higher education.
Student Staff Training - The Department of Residence Life annually provides its student staff to attend an extensive year-round training program including modules such as racism reduction, cultural sensitivity, sexual orientation, white privilege, and margninalizing.
