Hall Closing

2017 Hall Closing

1) All residents must check out of their room with a staff member no later than Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Noon in residence halls and Sunday, May 14, 2017 at 5:00pm in Opus & Davis. Failure to move out by this time will result in a $25 per hour fine.

2) Students should sign up for a check out time with their RA or staff member at least 24 hours in advance of their departure. A Residential Life staff member will inspect your room with you and let you know what you might be charged for. Hall staff will also conduct an inventory of damages to you floor and building to assess repair costs. You are responsible not only for the charges to your room, but your share of the charges to your floor and residence hall.

3) Express Check-Outs. To expedite the check-out process, the first roommate to move out of a bedroom may opt out of a room inspection with a staff member and choose to take advantage of the Express Check-Out Service. By using this service, the resident leaving without a full inspection waives the right to appeal charges incurred due to damage in the room, and BOTH roommates agree to split any damage charges equally, unless noted upon Express Check-Out. If a resident has concerns about room damages and associated charges, they are strongly encouraged NOT to use Express Check-Out Service. Sign-up for Express Check-Out will be available beginning Monday, April 24th through the Housing Portal.

4) Damage Charges. All damage notices will be sent to Creighton email accounts. Please note the following timeline:

a) May 24, 2017 1st Notice of damages

b) June 23, 2017 Payment of damages due

c) Early August: Registration holds applied if student has unpaid balance

If you are returning to Creighton housing, you are expected to pay any damages during Summer 2017. Damages will not be deducted from the $100 damage deposit. All students returning to on-campus housing must maintain a damage deposit of $100.

If you are withdrawing, graduating, or leaving Creighton housing, damage charges will be applied to your damage deposit. If the deposit is not sufficient to cover charges or fines, the student will be charged the additional amount.

Any remaining funds will be mailed to you within 8 weeks. Be sure to update your mailing address in your NEST account as this is where your refund will be mailed. Students with direct deposit set-up through Payroll will have their refund electronically transferred to their account.

5) Damage Appeals. If you feel that damage charges have been assessed in error, you will have 30 days from the date of the email containing your charges to contest damages. Floor/Wing and hall community damage charges will not be negotiated, reduced, or eliminated.

6) To make your move out easier, Creighton has partnered with College Boxes to provide storage and moving services. Pack up your items in the provided boxes, and College Boxes will pick them up directly from your room, store them over the summer, and then deliver them directly to your new home, whether you are returning to the halls or living off campus next fall. College Boxes also offers special pricing for moving and storing oversized items, like futons or bikes. For more information, or to sign-up, please visit www.collegeboxes.com.

7) We are again partnering with the Goodwill “Give and Go!” program. Every residence hall will have large bins placed in the lobby should you wish to dispose of usable items such as clothing, small appliances and other gently used household items. Food and large furniture items are not accepted. These bins will be available between May 1st and May 17th, 2017.

8) Cox Cable Boxes. All students leaving campus for the summer will need to return their Cox cable box before departing. Information about the return process will be sent to those students directly. Students transitioning to summer housing, or to a 12-month contract in Opus/Davis will need to contact Cox directly to complete change of address information.

9) Dumpsters will be placed outside of your hall for disposal of trash and unwanted items. Large items should be taken directly to the dumpsters; do not leave these items in student rooms, hallways, kitchens, study rooms, lounges, or other common areas.

10) 24 hour Quiet Hours exist in the halls throughout Final Exam week. Please be respectful to others and observe these quiet hours. Students moving earlier in the week should do so between 8AM-8PM and be as quiet as possible.

11) Theft of personal belongings increases this time of year, especially during move out. Be sure to keep your valuables with you or in your locked room. Laptops, books, cash, and wallets are particularly vulnerable. Items left in hallways can be mistaken for trash and thrown away, so leave things in your room.
