Greek Community Overview

Greek Life at Creighton University exists to provide students quality involvement opportunities which contribute to their educational, personal, and social development. Friendship, leadership, scholarship, service, and faith are the greatest assets to the Greek system.

Accomplishments of the Greek Community

Alpha Phi was re-colonized this spring at Creighton University, their installation banquet was Saturday April 21, 2012.  Alpha Phi raised $1,000 for Seina Francis house and was able to hand the check to Creighton Alum Tim Sully.

 

At the end of the 2010-2011 Academic Year, the Creighton Greek Community had participated in

21,956 hours of community service and donated $114,589 to charitable organizations.

 

The Panhellenic Council in 2011 won a grant from Kappa Delta for programming in regards to women's confidence, and led a variety of events including: Walk a Mile in Her Shoes and the documentary "Finding Kind" as part of Confidence U week.

 

Greek QPA for Spring 2011 was a 3.354 and membership totals were at 1344 (34.2% of the FT Undergraduate population).  (All University average QPA was 3.265).

 

74% of all Greek Chapter members are involved in at least three other campus activities

 

The Emerging Greek Leaders Program has touched over 75 students in 18 months, focusing on the text Heroic Leadership  by Chris Lowney (former Jesuit).

 

During Creighton Cleanup, an annual event hosted by Inter Residence Hall Government, the Greek Community volunteered at Charles E. Lakin center in Council Bluffs that hosts 5 agencies (Boys and Girls Clubs, Salvation Army, Heartland Family Services, American Red Cross, and Micah House.  Over 200 Greek students participated  at this site, saved the center over $10,000 and they donated a meal for the numerous families who use the services at the center.

Fraternities

The Greek system at Creighton University is centered on creating well-rounded individuals. Greek students are involved in all aspects of campus including: philanthropy, leadership, scholarship, and social. Creighton University does not recognize or register any Greek houses; however certain chapters have houses in which many Greeks live. The lack of houses does not deter from an effective Greek system with strong ties of friendship and brotherhood.

Creighton's five fraternities participate in many philanthropic events including: Run with a Heart, Night at Lou's, 3-on-3 Hoops for Hope, G.I.V. Month, roadside clean-up, and many more. All fraternities stress the importance of academics with activities including: tutoring, test files, and study halls. Other social events include date parties, Greek Week, formals, retreats, semi-formals, recruitment, service trips, and many more.

Sororities

The Greek community at Creighton University is centered on creating well-rounded individuals. Greek students are involved in all aspects of campus including: service, leadership, scholarship, and social.

Creighton's sororities participate in many philanthropic events including: Gamma Phi Bowling Tournament, Pi Phi Pigskin Classic, Turtle Tug, and the Nebraska AIDS Project. Other social events include date parties, Greek Weekend, formals, semi-formals, recruitment, retreats, service trips, and many more.

Umbrella Greek Organizations

There are six umbrella organizations within the Greek community at Creighton:

  • The Interfraternity Council, which serves as the governing and organizing body of the Men's Fraternity System
  • The Panhellenic Council, which serves as the governing and organizing body of the Women's Fraternity (Sorority) System
  • AMGO, or the Association of Multicultural Greek Organizations, serves as the governing and organizing body of the Multicultural Greek Community 
  • GSB, or the Greek Standards Board, serves as a peer educational, risk management focused, and judical body within the Greek Community
  • The Order of Omega is a leadership and academics honors society for Greek students
