Gamma Phi Beta President:
In 1874 at Syracuse University, four inspirational young women founded Gamma Phi Beta. Their goal was to promote the highest type of womanhood through education, social life, and service to the community. Today, Gamma Phi Beta has over 110 collegiate chapters in the United States and Canada. The term "sorority" was coined especially for Gamma Phi and had been used ever since.
Gamma Phi Beta works to promote leadership and resiliency in youth through a partnership with CampFire USA and Girls on the Run. Locally, we support Completely Kids through weekly tutoring at Jackson Elementary and service at the Stephen Center. Most recently, we have adopted a Girl Scout Troop to be led by our chapter. Gamma Phi Beta at Creighton University has over 100 members and we pride ourselves on our philanthropic projects, social events, academics and sisterhood bonding.
Each year, Gamma Phi Beta members actively participate in 3 philanthropic projects. We host a Bowling tournament in the fall to benefit our Fall Break service trip in Grand Couteau, Louisiana, and in the spring, our Crescent Classic "Wing Fling" baseball tailgate raises money for Campfire USA. We also have a Valentine's Day philanthropy event called "Carnations for your Cutie" to benefit our local philanthropy Completely Kids. Each of these projects enables the women of Gamma Phi Beta to make donations to both our local and national philanthropies. We are proud to support our philanthropies with our philanthropic mission of "Building Strong Girls." We are proud to be strong women building strong girls to be strong women in the future.
Our colors are brown and mode; our symbol is the crescent moon; our flower is the pink carnation.
Our social schedule is full as well. We hold two date parties a semester, semi-formal in the fall, and formal in the spring. Plus, we hold mixers with other fraternities and sororities. Date parties and mixers are full of fun with themes like, "Throwback", "Masquerade" and the annual Halloween party, "Goo Phoo Boo" (just to name a few).
The Creighton University chapter of Gamma Phi Beta is recognized internationally for its excellence in academics, community involvements, and Public Relations. At convention in Cincinnati, Ohio, our chapter received the following awards:
- Chancellor E. Haven Award (Highest chapter GPA Nationally). Great grades are awarded through Gator Grades!
- Community Involvement Award
- Overall PACE (Personal and Chapter Enrichment) Programming Award
- Honorable Mention Commitment to Camping Award and Excellence in PR Award
Members are actively involved in numerous organizations on campus including Creighton Students Union, Summer Preview, Panhelenic Council Residence Life, The Creightonian, Omicron Delta Kappa, Alpha Kappa Psi, FLP, and many others. Gamma Phi also participates in intramural flag football, basketball, volleyball and soccer. It is hard to look around and not see a Gamma Phi contributing to the betterment of society and working to achieve the highest type of womanhood.
Gamma Phi Beta will prove to be an everlasting bond of sisterhood that exists beyond the four years at college. We provide an atmosphere where you can be yourself and develop true friendships that will last a lifetime because we are "Founded Upon A Rock".
