Award Recognition

In order to celebrate the accomplishments of our student organizations, the Student Activities Office calls for nominations and applications each spring to be submitted for the following awards. The awards are presented at the annual Division of Student Life Awards Ceremony on April 13th at 3:00pm in the Skutt Student Center Ballroom.

Award Guidelines

  1. Nominations must be submitted via email or hard copy. Email applications are preferred.
  2. Last year's winners are ineligible to receive the award this spring.  For a list of past winners, please visit our Past Award Winners List.
  3. Complete nominations are no longer being accepted for the spring 2014 awards.

Student Organization Awards

  • For and With Others Service Award: This award recognizes student organizations which have a strong commitment to campus or community service.  This commitment can be demonstrated through a one-time program or an ongoing project.  Programs that provide a physical service to others, philanthropic projects or fundraisers are eligible.  If the program involves fundraising, only organizations that have registered the fundraiser with the Student Activities Office will be eligible. An organization may be nominated for more than one program, but a separate nomination form is needed for each.  A program can be nominated for both the Event of the Year and the For and With Others Service Award, if it qualifies for both, but both awards will not be given to same program. The event should have taken place between April of 2011 and March of 2012. Winning programs from last year are not eligible to win this year.
  • Outstanding Event of the Year Award: This award recognizes student organizations for planning and implementing an outstanding event for the Creighton community.  The event should be one that fulfills the mission of the organization.  Social, cultural, spiritual, recreational, and educational events which occurred on or off campus are eligible. The event should be one that was planned for and primarily attended by Creighton students. Evidence of this must be provided. All organizations are eligible for nomination regardless of how the event was funded.  An organization may be nominated for more than one event, but a separate nomination form is needed for each.  An event can be nominated for both the Event of the Year Award and the For and With Others Service Award, if it qualifies for both, but both awards will not be given to same event. The event should have taken place between April of 2011 and March of 2012. Winning events from last year are not eligible to win this year; however, an organization may win two years in a row for different events.
  • Excellence in Organizational Leadership Award: This award recognizes a student organization officer whose service and achievement between April 2011 and March 2012 has significantly benefited the student organization he/she leads.  This service should exceed the normal duties of the position he/she holds. This officer should have represented the ideals of the organization at all times.  All officers nominated must be official officers of the organization as listed on their organization's Annual Registration Form on file in the Student Activities Office.
  • Magis Moderator of the Year Award: This award recognizes the moderator who truly exemplifies the Jesuit value of Magis seeking excellence and giving more.  Nominees for this award should have gone above and beyond in providing support and service to the organization(s) they advise.  The moderator should be actively involved in the organization through participation, support, and commitment to the ideals of the organization.  The nominee can be any faculty or staff member who has been the official moderator of one or more student organizations.
  • Exceptional New Student Organization Award: This award is presented to an organization that has gone through the process of becoming a registered student organization within the past two years. This award recognizes one new student organization annually that strives to fulfill the mission and goals of student organizations. The organization should have become significantly involved in the Creighton Community during their short time on campus. This includes sponsoring events/activities on their own, as well as participating in campus activities as a student organization (such as Jay Jam, Involvement Fair, Inauguration, etc.). The organization should have the desire and potential to improve, grow, and achieve.
  • Professional/Graduate Student Organization Award of Distinction: This award serves to recognize a student organization in one of the professional or graduate schools that fulfills the University's mission for student organizations.  Nominated organizations should have regularly participated in or sponsored professional or graduate school activities.  The organization should also have made outstanding contributions both on campus and in the community.  The organization should have a desire to improve, grow, and achieve.  Additionally, the organization should have made a contribution to the overall educational mission of the University and advancement of social, moral, cultural, intellectual, physical, and/or spiritual development of individual members and the University community.
  • Undergraduate Student Organization Award of Distinction: This award serves to recognize a student organization that fulfills the University's mission for student organizations.  Nominated student organizations should have regularly participated in campus activities as a student organization (such as Involvement Fair, Relay for Life, Creighton Clean-Up, etc.).  The organization should also have outstanding contributions both on campus and in the community.  The organization should have a desire to improve, grow, and achieve.  Additionally, the organization should have made a contribution to the overall educational mission of the University and advancement of social, moral, cultural, intellectual, physical, and/or spiritual development of individual members and the University community.
