Geriatrics Physical Therapy Organization

Mission Statement
The Geriatric Physical Therapy Organization is designed to promote awareness and understanding of geriatric physical therapy within the university community.  The purpose of the GPTO shall be to encourage interest among physical therapy students to work in various disciplines concerned with the care of older adults as well as to provide students the opportunity to enhance their education exposure through service, the presentation of new research literature, and community programs for older adults.  Students will be updated on the latest physical therapy approaches with the benefit of guest speakers and community activities that provide opportunities for members to meet and connect with the geriatric population and to promote discussion and learning of health-related issues relevant to the geriatric community.  In addition, students will have the opportunity to shadow physical therapists working with older adults in a variety of health care settings.  GPTO will encourage the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program at Creighton University to continue to develop its curriculum and include geriatric physical therapy as an essential part of the general curriculum.  Furthermore, it is the goal of the GPTO to strive for the betterment of the geriatric community while living out the University mission, mission of the Department of Physical Therapy, the mission of the GPTO, and the Ignatian values Creighton University.
