Q: How many continuing educational credits do I have to earn?
A: Division of Student Life Staff members need to complete eight units during their performance evaluation time period (currently July 1-June 30). This includes part time and full time staff members.
Q: How many credits do new hires need to complete?
A: The Division of Student Services requires its employees to complete eight (8) IDEA Units between July 1st and June 30th. These dates coincide with the annual performance evaluation process timeline at Creighton University. Thus, for new hires, the following rules apply:
Q: Will I be paid for the time completing my requirements?
A: Hourly staff members will be granted paid release time. Exempt staff’s hours are included in their normal responsibilities.
Q: How do I receive credit for events I attend?
A: At each on campus event, please sign in on the IDEA Sign-Up Sheet. For off campus events, please submit evidence of attendance (a ticket stub, program, etc.) to the Diversity Action Team Chair. Please make sure to include your name, department, and phone number on the item.
Q: How are my units tracked?
A: The Diversity Action Team will use your sign in and out sheets to track units completed. This information will be shared with your supervisor.
Q: What happens once I complete my requirements?
A: DAT encourages you to attend more events! We will be acknowledging those staff members who seek Magis, or excellence, by going above and beyond the minimum. While we encourage you to continue your personal and professional development, please note that IDEA units do NOT carry over from one performance evaluation year to another.
Q: What is the role of managers/directors?
A: Once units are complete, a report will be generated for all managers in the Division. Efforts to complete IDEA requirements are to be incorporated into the employee’s annual Performance Review, which is submitted to Human Resources.
Q: What counts as a unit?
A: Units are established by the Diversity Action Team (DAT) for each event and will be posted with the event description on our online calendar. When accrediting events, DAT takes into consideration: the even's fit with the inter-group competencies, the quality of the experience, whether there is discussion with fellow Division staff members and the length of time of the event. Please note, hours spent at an event do not always equate to continuing education units for IDEA.
Q: I have a program that I would like approved for IDEA credit; how do I go about doing this?
A: Please submit the program information to IDEA@creighton.edu.
Q: Where do I go to ask additional questions?
A: Please email us at IDEA@creighton.edu.
