Auditing a Class

Auditing a Class

Students will be permitted to register as auditors with the authorization of the Dean. Not all courses are open to auditors. Auditors are not held responsible for the work expected of regular students, are not admitted to examinations, and receive no grade or credit for the course. Regular attendance at class is expected and auditors are subject to being dropped from the course for excessive absences (in this event auditors receive a W).

A student who has previously enrolled as an auditor may not take the course for credit during any succeeding semester or summer term except by special permission of the Dean.

Tuition for courses audited are reduced from the spring semester per-credit hour tuition rate. Special courses, workshops and institutes offered at a special flat-tuition charge are excluded from the auditor discount. Students seeking to change from credit to audit status will be eligible for a tuition adjustment (if not otherwise applicable) only if the change is made with the Dean's approval within the period for late registration.

Class Attendance

Class Attendance

Creighton University’s primary obligation is the total education of its students. Implicit in the achievement of this goal will be the student’s conscientious attendance of classes and laboratory sessions. Any exception to this norm will be made by the individual instructor for his or her own well-considered reasons.

Each teacher in the undergraduate colleges will, at the start of the term, announce his or her procedures concerning class attendance, verification of excused absences, etc. It is the student’s responsibility to note these procedures and to follow them carefully.

Course Loads

Course Loads

Typically, students may take a maximum of 4 credits in each summer “part of term”. For example, students may take 4 credits for sessions starting in May, 4 credits for sessions starting in June and/or 4 credits for sessions starting in July. In some instances, students may wish to take two, 3-credit courses in a shortened summer term, but please note that is the equivalent of 21 credits in a regular semester. Students should speak with their academic advisor about attempting a heavier course load during the shorter, summer terms.

Degree Application

Degree Application

Each candidate for a degree to be conferred at the close of the Summer Sessions must file a formal application for the degree with the Registrar's Office in June. Degrees will be conferred in August. Diplomas may be picked up at the Registrar's Office after mid-September, or will be sent to the graduate by certified mail.

No graduation ceremonies are held during the summer. However, those students who are candidates for degrees at the end of Summer Sessions may attend the University Spring Commencement of the same year. The application deadline is in March.  See the registrars website for more information on due dates.
