A Tree Campus USA University

We are celebrating 11 years of excellence! Creighton University continues to be named a "Tree Campus USA University" for its dedication to campus forestry management and environmental stewardship by the Arbor Day Foundation. Creighton is one of the inaugural Tree Campus USA honorees and has been honored every year since 2008. We are committed to promoting healthy trees and engaging students, faculty, and staff in the spirit of conservation.

A "Fair Trade University"

A "Fair Trade University"

Creighton University is the first Catholic, Jesuit University to achieve Fair Trade status. The designation is given by Fair Trade Colleges & Universities USA, a national initiative to embed Fair Trade principles within administrative policy and the social and intellectual fabric of academic communities and recognizes the institution's efforts to support Fair Trade through five established criteria:

  • policies
  • use of fair trade products where feasible in university-operated/owned outlets
  • use of these products in university operations such as meetings and special events
  • Fair Trade education and awareness building on campus and
  • general support of Fair Trade through procurement practices.

Child Development Center Nature Classroom Nationally Certified

The James R. Russell Child Development Centerís outdoor nature classroom earned the national designation of a certified Nature Explore Classroom from the Arbor Day Foundation and Dimensions Educational Research Foundation.

The national certification places the Center in a select circle. It is the first certified Nature Explore Classroom located at a college or university in Omaha, the 12th certified Nature Explore Classroom in Nebraska and one of 42 that have been certified in the U.S. Nature Explore Classrooms are part of the Nature Explore program, a collaborative project of the Arbor Day Foundation and Dimensions Educational Research Foundation. Developed in response to the growing disconnect between children and nature, certified Nature Explore Classrooms are designed to help fill the void by educating young children using research-based principles for integrating nature into their daily learning.
