St. Francis Day

St. Francis Day

The Feast of St. Francis occurs annually on October 4. Every year, The Office of Sustainability Programs, Schlegel Center for Service and Justice, St. John's, Justice and Peace Studies, and many faculty, staff, and students host events to celebrate the life and spirituality of St. Francis.

As part of the celebrations, we give out the Spirit of St. Francis Sustainability Award. If you would like to nominate a student, faculty, or staff member for the 2017 award, please see the criteria for nominations and email Ryan Wishart at RyanWishart@creighton.edu by Sept. 22, 2017.

The St. Francis Pledge

St. Francis pledgeOn October 4, 2013, Fr. Timothy Lannon, SJ, as Creighton University's president, signed the Catholic Climate Covenant's St. Francis pledge to Care for Creation and the Poor. In 2017, the Covenant launched an updated version of the St. Francis Pledge to celebrate the second anniversary of Pope Francis's encyclical Laudato Si': On Care for Our Common Home.

Creighton is dedicated to the pledge which is a commitment "to living out the vision of the encyclical and our Catholic faith through prayer, concrete action, and advocacy."

We encourage you to take the pledge, too!

Earth Day

Earth Day
