TRIO Talent Search Program

Supporting Achievement

Talent Search is a TRIO program funded by the United States Department of Education. The program supports middle and high school students who are income-eligible or potential first-generation college students. Talent Search helps these students by providing guidance, encouragement and resources that help them succeed academically and prepare for life after high school.

Our goal is to help students reach their educational goals, graduate from high school and pursue a college degree.

Talent Search Services

TRIO Talent Search supports participants academically, while also helping them prepare for college, explore careers and grow as leaders.

  • Academic support: Study skills, high school course selection and tutoring
  • College preparation: Selecting and visiting colleges, and assistance with financial aid and scholarships
  • Career exploration: Career assessments, career exploration workshops and business site visits
  • Personal development: Leadership skills, cultural activities and volunteering

Program Eligibility

To participate in TRIO Talent Search, a student must meet the following requirements.

  • Be a student in grades 6 through 12 at one of the following schools:
    • Beveridge, Bryan, Buffett, Davis, Hale, King Science, Lewis and Clark, Marrs, McMillan, Monroe, Morton and Norris middle schools
    • Benson, Bryan, Buena Vista, Central, North, Northwest, South and Westview high schools
  • Have and maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Be a United States citizen or permanent resident
  • Express a desire to pursue and attain a postsecondary education
  • Be considered income eligible according to federal guidelines and/or a potential first-generation college students

How to Apply

Expectations and Requirements

To remain in the TRIO Talent Search program, students must:

  • Show commitment to school by maintaining a GPA of 2.5 or higher 
  • Meet with their TRIO Coordinator at school when requested 
  • Participate in at least two Talent Search activities each year (more is encouraged) 
  • Adhere to the Code of Conduct

Is Talent Search free?

Yes. As a federally funded program, all Talent Search services are offered at no cost to participants.

Do I have to attend Creighton University if I participate in TRIO Talent Search?

No. TRIO Talent Search is a federally funded program that helps students explore many college options and does not require admission to Creighton.

Does TRIO Talent Search help with FAFSA or financial aid?

Yes. The program helps students and family members understand financial aid and scholarship options, as well as college and financial aid application processes.

Will the program help me with the SAT or ACT?

Yes. The Talent Search program provides guidance and resources to help students prepare for college entrance exams.

Can I participate in Talent Search and another TRIO program?

Students generally participate in only one TRIO program at a time. If you are interested in another TRIO program, such as Upward Bound, please contact us to understand which option best meets your needs and goals.

Can parents or guardians be involved?

Yes. Parents and guardians play an important role in helping students prepare for college. In the Talent Search program, this may mean helping complete forms, reviewing program information or participating in college planning, financial aid or student success workshops.
