Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,
To honor our spring graduates, Creighton University will host a virtual degree-conferral ceremony on Saturday, May 16, for all of our graduates, and online commencement celebrations for our various schools and colleges throughout the weekend.
Of course, I am deeply saddened – along with our spring graduates and their families and friends – that we will not be able to gather in person to mark this milestone achievement. It is indeed an auspicious occasion, the culmination of much hard work, late nights, and, especially this year, resilience.
I will miss seeing our graduates and their families and friends gathering on our beautiful campus on the days and hours before our ceremonies. Graduates, please know that once health recommendations allow, we hope you will return and visit.
As we communicated with our graduating students earlier this week, we are sending out their caps and gowns to their current residences. We welcome them to wear their academic regalia on May 16 during the virtual degree-conferral ceremony.
The short recorded ceremony, which will be posted online on May 16 at 1 p.m. (Central) on our commencement website, will feature the traditional turning of the tassel, once the degrees are conferred. Please watch the commencement website for final arrangements.
We look forward to seeing pictures of our graduates in their academic regalia, and with their families, on social media. Please tag us on social media, and use the hashtag #CreightonGrad.
Virtual commencement celebrations by school and college are also being planned. The College of Arts and Sciences, the Heider College of Business, and the College of Professional Studies will host a combined commencement celebration for seniors in their respective undergraduate programs on Friday, May 15.
More information on this celebration, academic hooding ceremonies for our professional schools, and similar ceremonies for other schools and colleges will be forthcoming.
As part of these ceremonies, each graduating student will be recognized in a roll call that will feature a slide with their photo.
Our graduates will be receiving an email soon asking for their photo. Those are due back to Creighton by Wednesday, April 29. Please provide a current photo in appropriate attire.
Again, I am disappointed that we will not be able to gather in person to celebrate the accomplishments of our graduates. However, graduates, please know, our entire Creighton community stands behind you in spirit and will be cheering you on during these ceremonies and well beyond.
You have made us proud during your time at Creighton, and we cannot wait to see where your journeys take you. We look forward to welcoming you back to campus as alumni soon, and you will always be in our prayers.
Congratulations, graduates! Please continue to regularly check the commencement website for updates and additional details.
