The Creighton University Department of Public Safety is headquartered in the west end of the Schneider Building at 2222 Burt Street. Visitors to Public Safety can park in Lot 38, which is located on the west side of 23rd Street, just north of Burt Street.
The Department of Public Safety protects and serves the Creighton community through proactive patrolling, rapid response, community outreach, security technology, and safe transportation options. We seek to ensure that all members of our community can live, learn, work, and play in a safe and secure environment.
The department is led by Senior Director Michael D. Reiner and Associate Director Dave Dibelka, with the support of Emergency Manager Pete Andrews, Parking Coordinator Jessica Weaver and Community Outreach Officer Tim Herron. Our team also includes 21 officers, 3 shift supervisors, 3 full-time dispatchers, and 3 part-time dispatchers. Public Safety has primary responsibility for security enforcement, emergency management, campus safety, and parking enforcement on the Creighton campus. The department is an armed, non-sworn agency. Local law enforcement agencies, including the Omaha Police Department and Douglas County Sheriff's Office can respond to campus when a sworn law enforcement response is required. Our officers are trained on CPR, AED, and first aid. The Omaha Fire Department can respond to campus when emergency medical care is required.
Public Safety is committed to a community policing philosophy in our daily operations, patrolling the campus 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. Public Safety works closely with the Division of Student Life, the Office of Community Standards and Wellbeing, the Office of Equity and Inclusion, the Violence Intervention and Prevention Center, Creighton Students Union, Inter Residence Hall Government, and many other University offices and student organizations on safety-related issues.
Calls made to the Creighton University Emergency Line (402.280.2911) go directly to the Public Safety Dispatcher. The dispatcher directs the activities and responses of on-duty officers and contacts local emergency responders, as needed. Students and employees should report emergencies and criminal activity to Public Safety at 402.280.2911. Non-emergency calls should be directed to 402.280.2104.

The safety and well-being of students, faculty, and staff are primary considerations at Creighton University. The Creighton University Annual Security and Fire Safety Report is published in compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act and Violence Against Women Act. This report includes statistics for the previous three years concerning reported crimes and fires, as well as institutional policies concerning alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, fire safety, crime reporting, and other matters. This legislation seeks to make college campuses safer through the disclosure of such information, and to assist applicants in making enrollment or employment decisions based upon that criteria.
