He completed his Ph.D. in Information Systems at Mississippi State University. He received both his bachelor's degree in information systems and his master's degree of information systems management from Brigham Young University. During his tenure at Creighton, he has taught management information systems, database, and cybersecurity courses. Dr. Ormond has won numerous teaching awards including the Creighton Beta Gamma Sigma Professor of the Year, the Heider College of Business Undergraduate Faculty Member of the Year, the Heider College of Business Graduate Faculty Member of the Year, and the Robert F. He has published numerous times in leading journals in his field for which he has won several Atta Billy Awards for Outstanding Scholarship from the Heider College of Business.

Dr. Ormond has engaged in many service opportunities at Creighton, such as serving on both college and university committees. His greatest service highlight is to be part of The BlueBox Project. The BlueBox is a mini-computer developed to bring education to rural communities without the need for Internet. This project has led to the development of one of the first academic service learning courses in the college of business which involves taking students to the Dominican Republic and delivering and instructing on how to use the BlueBoxes. Additionally, Dr. Ormond was able to use his sabbatical to further this project in South Africa. Dr. Ormond has received several Cahill Awards of Excellence from the Heider College of Business recognizing his dedicated service both to the university and global communities outside the university.

His prior work experience includes developing databases, supporting customers, consulting, and managing data centers. His technical skills include PHP, JavaScript, AJAX, Node.js, HTML, CSS, Java, VBA, Clarion, MySQL, Oracle/SQL, PL/SQL, Flex, Python, Windows, Mac, UNIX, Power Shell scripting, network design, network troubleshooting, server configuration, and UML modeling.

Besides research, teaching, and other responsibilities, Dr. Ormond enjoys being a husband, father to five children, outdoors enthusiast, and member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Dr. Ormond enjoys playing ultimate frisbee, running, hiking, biking, and any other sport. Additionally, for one of his hobbies, he collects and plays board games with over 150 board games.
